Dr. Tarah Steinbach

Dr. Tarah Steinbach founded Steinbach Physical Therapy with a simple belief: every patient deserves individualized, expert care — not a conveyor-belt clinic experience. After years in large PT practices, she opened her own practice in Friendship Heights to offer exactly that.

Dr. Steinbach earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences and went on to complete advanced training in orthopedic and sports physical therapy. She holds certifications in manual therapy, dry needling, and instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM).

She has a particular passion for working with athletes at all levels — from weekend runners to competitive collegiate sports — as well as dancers, musicians, and performers who face unique biomechanical demands. She also has deep expertise in post-surgical rehabilitation following procedures such as ACL reconstruction, rotator cuff repair, and total joint replacement.

Outside the clinic, Dr. Steinbach is an avid runner and recreational tennis player, and she is actively involved in the DC dance and performing arts community.

Treatment Philosophy

Dr. Steinbach's approach centers on understanding the whole person — not just the injury. She takes time during the initial evaluation to understand your activity level, goals, lifestyle, and what recovery means to you specifically.

Every treatment plan is a collaboration. You'll always know why you're doing each exercise, what the research says about your condition, and what realistic timelines look like for your recovery. The goal is to help you get back to the activities you love — and keep you there.
